In this special issue we have collected a selection of the best papers of the "Computing and control for the water industry" 2011 conference. The conference was organised by University of Exeter in Exeter, UK, from 5-7 september 2011.
Young scientists workshop of the International Water Week Amsterdam

From 01 – 04 November 2011, selected out of 160 abstracts, 33 authors of different backgrounds (law, engineering, social sciences, economics) attended the young professionals workshop of the first International Water Week Amsterdam. In four days time the young scientists wrote their vision on the challenges of the urban water cycle.
Baltic Water Research Conference (2011)

The first Baltic Water Research Platform meeting took place in Riga, 25 October 2011. The meeting was attended by about 40 participants from all 3 Baltic countries. Main topics of the meeting were drinking water, advances in water treatment, wastewater issues, advances in analytical methods and modeling. In principle whole watercycle was covered and issues for debate selected.
